Senator Kirsten Gillibrand Has Received Over $150k In Donations From Cryptocurrency Executives

Funding reports show that a Democrat Senator from New York, Kirsten Gillibrand has received over $1 million as donations. Among the donors are some crypto executives like Winklevoss and FTX’s Sam Bankman-Fried. It was said the FTX CEO donated a total sum of $5,800 and the US president of the exchange, Brett Harrison gave about $2,900.

Other people who contributed to this donation include Kyle Samani, the co-founder and other key executives of Multicoin Capital, a crypto hedge fund. Altogether, the report shows that they all contributed $19,400.

Other donors on the list are said to have connections with crypto companies like Andreessen Horowitz, Uniswap Labs, HODL, dYdX, and Meta. In addition, nothing less than eight CEOs of crypto companies contributed to the donations for the campaign of the senator last quarter. Among these chief executives is Messari’s Ryan Selkis, Aptos’ Mo Shaikh, Hivermappers’ Ariel Seidman, Paxos’ Charles Cascarilla, and Matcha Design’s Avani Miriyala.

From the reports, it was shown that other individuals who are leaders of various crypto units in other traditional financial set-ups are part of the donations. Among them is TuongVy Le, who is currently Bain Capital’s Head of Policy and Regulatory, and he donated 1,000 USD. Another person is Amy Odenberg working as the Head of Emerging Markets from Morgan Stanley Investment Management, who donated 1,500 USD.

It was revealed from the report that not only executives or individuals from private firms are involved in the donations but there are leaders of industry groups who contributed to the movement. Among them are Lee Bratcher, the President of the Texas Blockchain Council, Dan Spuller, the Head of Industry Affairs from the Blockchain Association, and the CEO of Crypto Council for Innovation Sheila Warren.

Bi-partisan Bill Proposed by the Senator

The veteran senator, Gillibrand, who has also contested for the presidential seat got his popularity in the crypto space at the beginning of the year after he proposed a bi-partisan crypto bill together with Senator Cynthia Lummis. As a matter of fact, Lummis said recently that she is learning the concept of NFTs from Senator Gillibrand.

As it stands, the proposal is welcomed by the majority of the stakeholders in the crypto space and the senators have even published a copy of the proposal on GitHub to gather people’s opinions in the industry.

For some in the space, the proposal and the disclosure are not a surprise as stakeholders in the space have been influencing policies through donations and sponsors for politicians. A few months ago, SBF revealed that he planned to spend close to a billion dollars in the next elections, but as of March 31, the crypto industry has invested about $28 million in politics.
