Twitter rolls out new security features to avoid hacking of high profile accounts in the future. The security update comes after months of a great hacking in which accounts of prominent personalities got hacked.

Security Update before Election

The giant social media platform has requested all influential and political personalities to update their accounts to activate new security update along with features.  The security update comes before the US elections in an attempt to defend any kind of hacking attack during election time. Twitter stated:

“Voters, political candidates, elected officials and journalists rely on Twitter every day to share and find reliable news and information about the election, and we take our responsibility to them seriously. As we learn from the experience of past security incidents and implement changes, we’re also focused on keeping high-profile accounts on Twitter safe and secure during the 2020 US election.”

Per the announcement, all election-related and “high-profile” Twitter accounts are notified to update security features for security purposes. These accounts belong to US governors, US executive branch, political parties, Congress members, political journalists, presidential campaigners, and major US news outlets. “We’re taking the additional step of proactively implementing account security measures for a designated group of high-profile, election-related Twitter accounts in the US,” the firm added.

Security Instructions

The firm also lays out the instructions which should be followed by the respective account holders. They need to use a strong password instead of a weak password. They are required to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) which will provide an extra layer of security. Moreover, the firm has enabled password “reset protection for accounts by default.”

Twitter also explained that additional security measures will also add to these accounts in the coming weeks including sophisticated detections, increased login defenses, and expedited account. “Implementing these security measures is a critical preventative step, and you will continue to see us introduce new protections and features to help safeguard accounts on Twitter,” the firm concluded.
