Steven Mnuchin Appoints Brooks as Deputy Comptroller
The Secretary at Treasury Office, Steven Mnuchin, warmly welcomes the new deputy officer at OCC by saying,’’ I look forward to working with him to ensure the stability of our financial system and its ability to foster greater economic growth for the benefit of all Americans.’’
The Comptroller of the Currency is the department that is responsible for regulating and controlling the banks in the country. The supervision and regulation of financial institutions is also the job of OCC. The Office of OCC is serving the United States since 1863.
The Comptroller of OCC’s office, Joseph Otting, was appointed by President Donald Trump back in 2017. He also passes good comments about the upcoming deputy officer. ‘’Brian brings an extensive career of legal, banking, and financial innovation expertise to the agency,’’ he said.
Otting praised Brooks in the words:
‘’He is a visionary thinker with a passion for service and a deep understanding of how the financial services industry supports our nation’s prosperity. We are fortunate to attract such an experienced and talented individual to join our federal agency.’’
Brooks can bring a friendly crypto environment
Prior to this job, Brooks was working at Coinbase as a chief legal officer. Steven Mnuchin, however, is a bitcoin opposer but he appoints the man with a prior background of cryptocurrency. The initiative may mediate the environment between the government and crypto-related businesses as Brooks is a crypto enthusiast.
While speaking to Coindesk, the spokesperson of Coinbase said:
‘’Brian is an amazing and accomplished leader who has been invaluable in shaping the Coinbase legal and compliance programs, and helping policymakers and regulators better understand the opportunities and benefits of crypto. We’re always proud of Coinbase alumni who go on to serve in government, bringing a crypto-friendly perspective with them.’’
