The authorities of Maharashtra (a state in India) have initiated delivering caste certificates through Polygon blockchain to the residents within Etapalli (a village in Gadchiroli district), as included in the Digital India movement. In collaboration with LegitDoc – an application based on blockchain – Maharashtra’s state government is operating on the procedure of releasing caste certificates numbering up to 65,000 to assist in the issuance of government-level benefits and schemes.
Shubham Gupta – an IAS (Indian Administrative Service) officer – disclosed that the government of India always pursues to implement the latest coming technologies to assist in democratizing the services for the residents. He added that Web3 promotes the idea of democratization to a unique stage, where the data can be openly shared and can also be unfalsified openly.
As referred to by Gupta, in the article which was co-authored on the behalf of Neil Martis (the CEO of LegitDoc), the release of caste certificates through neutral venues on Web3 targets 1.1M economically challenged citizens living in the Gadchiroli district, which more than 70% are the representatives of the tribal masses. In addition to this, the certificates are also directed towards deterring the forgery endeavors on the behalf of malicious people to illegally claim the benefits provided by the government to the underprivileged people.

According to them, anyone can enter the public blockchain network in the case of Web3 however no one can take control over the entire network, hence minimizing the deplatformation hazard posed by both external and internal people.
Gupta moved on to point out that the jurisdictions taking account of Malta and Singapore have executed analogous e-governance endeavors. That is why it seems to be important for the Indian government to accept web3 because it can push them to obtain their goals of citizen services’ democratization. As included in the endeavor – selective data is taken by LegitDoc venue from the government-based portal called MahaOnline to be put on the PoS (proof-of-stake) blockchain of Polygon.
Afterward, the system constructs a QR code as well as certificates – to be verifiable through several departments under the government. Apart from this, the unique system can also verify blockchain certificates’ printed form, as confirmed by Gupta.
