Web3 Startup NieuxCo Taps NFTs to Token Gate Bathrooms and Bars at Mardi Gras

Getting access to a proper bathroom during festivities in Mardi Gras can be tough. However, this year there is a venue in New Orleans that allows you to use theirs as long as you possess an NFT Pass, thanks to web3 company NieuxCo.

The New Orleans-based firm plans to launch its Mardi Gras-themed NFTs later this week. These NFTs come with numerous perks, including food and drink. Also, the NFT holders will have access to private parties, restrooms, special events, and exclusive performances.

In a press release, NieuxCo co-founder and CEO Tim Williamson said that Nieux society members collectively aimed to actualize the vision for Mardi Gras through the use of NFT technology to offer holders exclusive access and benefits in a way that enables New Orleans to realize its full creative potential.

The firm’s Mardi Gras-themed NFT collection comprises about 5,000 AI-generated pieces. Many refer to Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as digital collectibles representing ownership of digital assets, including music, videos, and memberships to an online community.

Some NFT Fans Unimpressed by NFT Use in Real-World Cases

NFTs can now be used to give holders access to real-world experiences. But not all NFT fans are impressed by the move. Recently, a New York-based restaurant announced that it would soon start using NFTs to give access to its highly-demanded reservations. NFT enthusiasts mocked it.

Meanwhile, NieuxCo has received a similar reception. Once the firm revealed the Mardi Gras-themed NFTs and their use cases, crypto Twitter made several jokes about them. One account owned by a New Orleans-based bar tweeted that its bathrooms are free and everyone is welcome.

NieuxCo Could Fuel NFT Adoption

Nonetheless, some NFT fans believe that NieuxCo is doing exceptional work. One Twitter user tweeted that the use of NFTs in simple and relatable cases like access to bathrooms or bars is an effective way to introduce residents of New Orleans to the NFT space.

NieuxCo says it will invite all NFT holders to its regular workshops and involve them in other upcoming New Orleans-themed NFTs. The Mardi Gras NFTs will also give access to an augmented reality game that lets holders search for digital coins that unlock extra perks.
