The prosecuting attorney in the space of the embattled FTX case has indicted the FTX boss over the use of VPN. Although the defendant had argued that the attitude of his client was harmless, it has since forged a new trend in the case. The report has it that the presiding judge: Lewis Kaplan is looking to consider whether Sam Bankman-Fried popularly known as SBF would be allowed to use any internet-enabled electric device at the moment.
It was also said that Judge Kaplan is considering changing Sam Bankman’s bail conditions ‘cos of the complaint from the prosecutors who brought up the VPN issue. But according to the attorney representing the Department of Justice, Damian Williams, the government only knew about Sam Bankman’s use of a VPN on 29th January and 12th February 2023.
Attorney Williams was also reported to have convinced the judge that the said VPN is used for legitimate purposes. This claim is coming at a time when the prosecutor had convinced the court otherwise. In his defense, Williams also went ahead to tell the judge that his client is only trying to use the VPN to access other foreign cryptocurrency exchanges that restrict IPs from users in the US.
SBF Gets Lucky
It was gathered that Mark Cohen, Sam Bankman’s counsel, who was also the same lawyer in Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex trafficking case told the court that his client also uses the VPN when watching sports events like football. He went ahead to explain to the judge the kinds of football his client uses the said VPN for. According to the correspondence present in court, Williams had mentioned that Sam Bankman indulge in NFL Games with the help of the VPN.
He further clarified the court by saying that his client purchased the said VPN when he was in Bahamas.
