The court hearing involving Hodlonaut a.k.a. Magnus Granath and Craig Wright, the self-proclaimed benevolent inventor of Bitcoin, is getting more absurd with each day. While we are waiting for the results of an independently conducted audit of documents verifying the identity of Mr. Wright, the defendant uses tactics that can only be described as preposterous.
The long story of Craig Wright
Satoshi Nakamoto was the anonymous inventor of the Bitcoin network who left a white paper with a clear message that the Bitcoin network should be used as a countermeasure to the “criminal” banking and monetary system. Immediately after publishing the white paper and deploying the network, the mysterious inventor largely disappeared from the public eye with his last message published in 2011.
Several years later, Craig Wright started claiming that he is Satoshi Nakamoto. His announcement was scrutinized by the whole community with many skeptically demanding that he publicly confirm his identity by using cryptographic keys. However, Craig Wright only did it in front of Gavin Andresen who was initially convinced but later retracted his support for Mr. Wright during another court hearing.
The currently ongoing court hearing in Norway started with a very weak statement from Wright’s legal team that said that he will not use his cryptographic keys because of psychological trauma suffered from struggling with confirming his identity. The Hodlonaut’s legal representatives responded by saying that they conducted an independent audit with the help of KPMG, one of the biggest audit providers in the world.
The most recent statement from Wright in the courtroom contains a very weird argument in his defense. In essence, Mr. Wright says that he cannot use cryptographic keys because they were stored on a physical hard drive that he intentionally stomped to never be forced by some evil entities to do something he should not do.
We are all waiting for the finale
It seems that the legal battle between Craig Wright and Magnus Granath can finally put this soap opera to an end. Both sides are not going to give up and we will finally know the truth.
