Western Union and PayPal Submit Trademarks for Crypto Services
Global financial service giants, Western Union, and PayPal are stepping up their crypto game. Each of them has submitted three trademark options for approval. They will cover a wide variety of crypto products they plan to offer.
Welcoming More Products
As for PayPal, its applications also cover payments for its logo. The company submitted its application to the US Patent and Trademark Office. A licensed attorney of the Trademark Office, Mike Kondoudis, made this known via a tweet.
PayPal submitted the trademark application for the company name “PayPal” and the logo with overlapping “P”s. The company claims it plans to offer a broad range of new crypto-related products. They include trading, exchanging, processing blockchain transfers, and other related services.
The applications were reportedly submitted on the 18th of October. And they have the serial numbers 97636857, 97636892, and 97636933.
There was a portion of the submitted application that was released for public knowledge. It states that the application includes software for users to download. With it, they would be able to send, receive, buy, sell, or store digital assets.
Assets to be tradable and transmittable on the platform include stablecoins, blockchain, and digital commodities. Others are utility tokens, digital tokens, virtual currencies, digitized assets, and lots more.
More Companies are Applying
PayPal’s crypto platform currently lets users in the US and other US territories – except Hawaii –use four cryptocurrencies. They are Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash only. PayPal only recently began to allow users to transfer their crypto to other exchanges and wallets.
PayPal was at the center of a controversy earlier this month. It came after users found out that its new policy terms let the company fine users up to $2,500 if they spread “misinformation.” The company subsequently came out to claim it was an error.
Kondoudis also reported, on the other hand, that Western Union equally submitted three trademarks for approval. The applications came the same day PayPal submitted its own.
Kondoudis wrote that Western Union equally submitted three applications. The company claims it plans to offer banking, financial, and insurance services. Other services include digital currency exchange and transfers, crypto and commodity trading, as well as brokerage.
Western Union’s application serial numbers are 97641176, 97641182, and 97641189.
There is an increasing number of firms applying for crypto-related and metaverse trademarks. Formula One submitted an application earlier this month. The application covers a lot of metaverse and crypto products.
Other companies that applied for such include Ford, eBay, Meta, and Mastercard at the very least.
